The Collection of Bengt-Olof Landin
The unique and beautiful collection of books on entomology
collected by professor Bengt-Olof Landin, was sold this
Thursday. The collection was sold for more than 5 million SEK,
and the most expensive book was lot no 418, 'Dissertatio de
Generatione et Metamorphosibus Insectorium Surinamesium'
by Maria Sibylla Merian, which was sold for 750 000 SEK.
March 25th Crafoord Auktioner sold the comprehensive
book collection of prof. professor Bengt-Olof Landin (1925-2006),
professor of Zoology and specialized in Entomology at the University
of Lund. He was a dedicated book collector and had a special interest
in handcoloured works from the 18th and 19th centuries.

His collection consisted of more than 1000 books, and the
highlight is 'Dissertatio de Generatione et Metamorphosibus
Insectorium Surinamesium' by Maria Sibylla Merian, printed in
1719 with handcoloured frontispiece and 72 handcoloured
counterproof plates in copper. A very rare and special work!
